The Main Department of Geology under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan attaches a great importance in its international activities to the cooperation with the Russian Federation in the field of geological study. It is also expressed by the need to preserve and develop traditional ties of geological services of the two countries, which contributes to the further development and strengthening of economic relations between the countries.
Pursuant to decisions of the “Mining Charter”, the General Department of Geology annually participates in the meetings of the Intergovernmental Council for Exploration, Exploitation and Protection of Resources, discussing critical geology issues.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the General Department of Geology under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of geological study. In the framework of this Memorandum, the Main Department of Geology cooperates with various institutions and agencies of the Russian Federation on the following projects:
“GIS Atlas of geological maps of the CIS and neighboring countries with the scale of 1:2500000” composed in cooperation with the Karpinsky Russian Geological Institute (St. Petersburg). A report was made at the 33rd International Geological Congress (Norway, Oslo, 2008).
“The development of the strategy for cooperation between the CIS countries on the exploitation of mineral resources, including joint exploration, development and production”.
“Standardization, Certification and cooperation in the field of geological information resources and systems”.
“Monitoring and development of the concept for management of hazardous exogenous geological processes in the CIS countries”. The General Department of Geology is the coordinator of the project.
The Inter-Parliamentary Forum induced the interest of the potential investors in the minerals of Tajikistan. The following documents were signed:
The agreement on the general principles of geological study of oil and gas bearing regions in the Republic of Tajikistan signed between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and JSC “Gazprom” on 10 June, 2008. Under this Agreement, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan issued JSC “Gazprom” licenses for geological study of 4 oil and gas bearing areas of the Republic of Tajikistan: Rengon, Sargazon, Sarikamish and West Shokhambari.
On the basis of this license, JSC “Gazprom Zarubezhneftegaz” performs geological and seismic survey of the licensed areas. As a result of the work on the oil and gas area Sarikamish, a 6450m hole was drilled, which is 150 meters more than was planned. Currently, the company continues drilling.
In addition, many Russian companies applied to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to obtain licenses to conduct exploration on various mineral deposits of the Republic of Tajikistan.
State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” is interested in cooperation in the exploration and mining of uranium deposits on behalf of JSC “AtomRedMetZoloto”.
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Federal State Institution “State Commission on Mineral Reserves” and the State Commission on Mineral Reserves of the Republic of Tajikistan. Under the agreement, the parties will assist each other in carrying out an independent assessment of mineral reserves, ensuring the exchange of information and the use of regulatory documents.
An agreement on “International Science and Technology Cooperation” was signed between the General Department of Geology and the G.P.Luzina Institute of Economic Issues of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Under this agreement the Parties will cooperate in the field of science.
